Eligibility and Fees

Membership Eligibility

BCASW membership is open to graduates or students of Canadian university Social Work education programs accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education , American universities accredited by the Council on Social Work Education or qualifications from outside Canada or the United States that have been evaluated as equivalent to the Canadian BSW, MSW or doctorate degree in social work by the BC College of Social Workers.

Individuals without a recognized degree in Social Work but working in an allied field may affiliate as an “Associate” of the Association.

Students enrolled in a social service worker diploma program can join BCASW at the Student Member rate as a “Student Associate”. Following graduation, they can continue as an “Associate” of BCASW.

Full time (employed 20 hours per week or more) $288
Part time (employed < 20 hours per week) $150

Current BCASW members receive additional membership incentives:

  • Members going on parenting leave have their fees waived for up to twelve months
  • Newly graduated student members receive a 40% reduction in their fees for the first year following graduation and a 20% reduction in fees the second year
  • Members for 30 years or more who are now retired pay $66 per year
