Seeking Employment as a Substance Abuse Counsellor

After a lengthy career with CN Rail, I opted for a career in social work rather than relocating to Edmonton. I plan to always be based in Kamloops. I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and a Bachelor of Social Work between the years 1996 and 2005. I have 5 years experience as a Family and Employee Assistance Counsellor. For the past year, I have been employed for the past year as a Street and Prison Outreach Worker by the AIDS Society of Kamloops where I provide health education and promote harm reduction strategies to marginalized populations. Acting as a case manager, I am engaged in facilitating the movement of individuals with mental health/addictions issues though stages of change. Once client assessment is complete, referrals to appropriate social service and medical agencies are made. I also act as an advocate for financial aid and housing for hard to house, street involved and disabled individuals. The following is a sketch of my experience and skills.
