Richmond/Delta/Burnaby Branch

The Richmond Delta Burnaby Branch covers a large geographic area, including the municipalities of Burnaby, Coquitlam, Delta, Ladner, New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Richmond, and White Rock. We have an active Board of Directors who work on issues such as advocacy, regulation, and membership development.

Meetings are held jointly with the Vancouver Sea to Sky Branch. Are you interested in becoming involved in BCASW and the Richmond Delta Burnaby Branch? Email
rdb@vcn.bc.ca for more information, or feel free to attend one of our upcoming meetings!

Recent activities:  Over the past year, the Vancouver Sea to Sky (VSS) and the Richmond Delta Burnaby (RDB) Branches organized a number of events for our members.  Memorable occasions include a Christmas meet and greet to benefit the Broadway Youth Resource Centre, and a Social Work Week celebration featuring the research of the UBC MSW class.  In May, the branches supported BCASW’s Multicultural and Antiracism Committee in screening the film “Continuous Journey”, and panelists spoke on the subject of what we today can learn from the Komagata Maru tragedy of 1914.  The RDB Branch recently undertook a membership survey examining participation in the life of the association, and will share the results shortly.  The VSS Branch will also undertake a similar survey in the near future.  After ten years of service with the VSS Branch, Marty Lund has chosen to step down.  We all wish Marty well, and both his fellowship and steady involvement will be dearly missed.  Our members continue to be active in BCASW by serving on the Board of Directors and various professional committees.  We acted as guest editors for the December 2006 edition of Perspectives, focusing on economic justice as our theme.  The VSS and RDB Branches meet jointly on the third Wednesday of each month.  For more information, please email seatosky@vcn.bc.ca or rdb@vcn.bc.ca.

Richmond/Delta/Burnaby Branch Representative to the BCASW Board is
Duncan Stephen
